Well, hello there,
You should know that concise has never been one of my strong suits, and I’m frequently guilty of using too many explanation marks. What can I say? I’m usually excited about what I’m writing about!
I’ve packed a lot of life experience into my 50+ years on this planet. However, in keeping with my goal to keep this post informative but brief, I’ll attempt a point-form introduction of myself.
Here are 10 things to know about me:
- Born and raised here in London, Ontario.
- Married my high school sweetheart, Ian, in the early nineties, and we welcomed our daughter, Mackenzie, later that year.
- Unexpectedly widowed at the age of 36 and laid off with 600 other coworkers from my bank job 18 months later due to the famous subprime mortgage fallout. #doublewhammy
- I’ve been an empty-nester since 2013! Mackenzie, her wonderful partner, my dear grandfurkids, Arte the beagle, and Alice and Oakley, the teeny, tiny cats, live in a cute little house nearby.
- As part of a fairy tale story that I’ll detail in another post, I was remarried in 2015 to Paul, the brown-eyed, freckle-faced boy who was my first love in grade 8 in elementary school.
- We have an elderly, now toothless, sassy Dachshund named Daisy, whom we’ve called Dowager Daisy affectionately in recent months. We are at her beck and call.
- I first discovered money management at the age of 12 when my Uncle Gerry taught me how to divide my babysitting money into three jars: short-term and long-term savings, and disposable income.
- I’ve worked in most aspects of the finance industry, gaining experience in retail banking, credit services, scheduling/payroll, investment planning, and bookkeeping.
- I started playing bass guitar in a neighbourhood ukulele band of 9 friends, 8 of whom (myself included) learned how to play just to join the band. I also play upright bass in another all-female band that focuses on folk, country, blues and roots music.
- I’m convinced that a good, dry, baked cheesecake, or anything made with properly laminated croissant dough, will get me through almost any life crisis.
Until next time…
